After battling with his major label for years, 50 Cent has decided to become an independent artist.
The rapper announced Thursday that he’s leaving his longtime record label, Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records, and Eminem’s imprint, Shady/Aftermath.
The Grammy winner and his G-Unit Records have signed a distribution agreement with Caroline, the independent label at Capital Music Group.
International advocacy group Oceana says it has received a $3 million grant from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation for its work to protect threatened ocean habitat and keystone marine species such as sharks.
Oceana said in a statement Thursday the grant, which will be spread over a three-year period, will also support its work to advocate for responsible fishing measures, including a ban on California drift gillnets.
The eclectic trio of Elton John, Kanye West and Jack White will headline this summer’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchster, Tenn., from June 12 to 15.

A Hall County jury in Gainesville, Ga., on Thursday also found Jeffrey Hubbard guilty of serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation. The summer 2012 crash on Lake Lanier northeast of Atlanta killed Kile Glover and left another teen injured.
