2 apartments damaged in Goeglein Road fire

Two apartments were damaged in a fire at Savannah Springs Apartments on Fort Wayne's northeast side Wednesday afternoon, city firefighters said.

Firefighters were called to 3706 Goeglein Road about 3:35 p.m. and discovered a fire had occurred in the bedroom of a second-floor apartment, the Fort Wayne Fire Department said in a statement.

Residents had evacuated before firefighters arrived, and the fire was nearly extinguished by a sprinkler system inside the room, the statement said.

It said that apartment and the apartment below it sustained water damage.

No one was injured, and the fire remains under investigation, the statement said.
