K's burned in Florida

Lose 4-1 in 1st of 3 games

If the Komets don't improve, their trip to Estero, Fla., will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

In the first of three straight games against the Florida Everblades, the Komets lost 4-1 on Wednesday night, in front of 4,602 fans at Germain Arena.

Right wing Christian Ouellet had the lone Fort Wayne goal, after a great pass from Matt Carter, 10:58 into the second period.

But the Everblades had already gotten two goals from defenseman Jordan Henry, who assisted on the A.J. Jenks one-timer goal for a 3-1 lead 6:30 into the third period.

Jenks had an empty-netter to finish the scoring at 19:05.

Goaltender Andrey Makarov stopped 22 of 25 shots, as Fort Wayne (23-16-11) lost in regulation time for only the second time in the last 11 games.

Connor Knapp stopped 29 of 30 shots for Florida (27-17-5), which had won only two of its previous six games.

Scott Fleming, who had been out with an ankle injury, returned to the Komets lineup but was a game-worst minus-3.

The teams play against Friday and Saturday.

Notes: Former Komets forward Mickey Lang, who leads the ECHL in goal scoring, was featured on the league's weekly podcast: Click here to listen; he's from the 5- to 11-minute marks. ... To make room in the lineup for Fleming, Sy Nutkevitch was scratched. ... Jason Dale remained out with a groin injury. ... In case you are wondering about Makarov's strange jersey, it was the ECHL Fantasy Team jersey he had been expected to wear last month. It will be auctioned off at a later date through Meigray.
