Rival gangs cited in shooting that injured five men

A shootout at Lafayette Street and East Tillman Road about 4:30 a.m. Sunday involved rival gang members who had gotten into an argument at a local bar and chased each other in cars to the intersection where the shootings happened, police say.

In all five men were injured in the shooting.

Two of the victims were found outside a house in the 1800 block of Fox Point Trail, which is off South Anthony Boulevard less than a mile from the intersection. Those men were taken to a local hospital, where one is listed in serious condition and one is in critical condition.

About 20 minutes later a local hospital notified police that two other males with gunshot wounds had been brought in by private cars. One was in serous condition and one was in good condition.

About five minutes after that another hospital notified police that a man who had been shot was brought in by a private car. He was also listed in good condition.

Police said all of the victims are confirmed gang members, though they would not release the names of the gangs.

Police have not yet released the names of any of the victims, and the name of the bar where the argument started would be released later, they said.

The intersection where the shooting took place had to be closed while police collected evidence, including shell casings and broken glass.

Detectives were also canvassing the neighborhood searching for witnesses and any surveillance video from local businesses, police said.

Police asked that anyone who has information about the shooting call the police department at 427-1222, call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (7867) or use an anonymous reporting feature at www.fwpd.org.
