Officer hurt in shootout that left 1 dead

HAMILTON, Ohio – Police in southwestern Ohio say a shootout in a residential neighborhood left an officer hurt and another man dead.

The shootout happened in Hamilton Saturday morning.

A resident told WCPO in Cincinnati that he woke up to the sound of gunfire and saw a Hamilton police officer exchanging shots with a man firing a shotgun.

Police in Hamilton said the 44–year-old officer was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Police said the suspect died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Authorities in Hamilton said they were called to the neighborhood after receiving calls about a man shooting a gun into the air.
