Northern Indiana lawmaker, daughter hurt in crash

INDIANAPOLIS – A state lawmaker from northern Indiana says he and his daughter are recovering from injuries suffered in a crash near the Statehouse grounds.

Democratic Rep. David Niezgodski of South Bend said in a statement that he has a broken rib from Thursday night’s crash in downtown Indianapolis. He said the crash also aggravated an old neck injury.

Niezgodski said his 23-year-old daughter Rachael suffered a concussion and has been released from a hospital.

Emergency workers needed 15 minutes to free Niezgodski’s daughter from the wreckage after the car he was driving was struck on the passenger side by an SUV. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Police Sgt. Kendale Adams said investigators haven’t determined who had the intersection’s green light.

Niezgodski was first elected to the legislature in 2006.
