Driver held after 2 police chases

A Fort Wayne man believed to have stolen three vehicles and led police on two pursuits was arrested Tuesday after crashing the third vehicle in DeKalb County, police said.

About 7:15 a.m., police were attempting to find a stolen Ford truck from LaGrange County, according to the Auburn Police Department.

The driver of the stolen truck, Bruce H. Sheehan, evaded officers during an initial pursuit and then abandoned the truck in Steuben County and stole a Dodge Durango, police said.

A short time later, a black Volvo was reported stolen on West Fox Lake Road, and the Durango was found nearby.

Auburn police stationed at Interstate 69 and Indiana 8 spotted a southbound Volvo matching the description of the stolen vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop.

Sheehan fled, leading police on a 6.5-mile pursuit at speeds of 75 mph that ended when he crashed the Volvo at County Road 7A and County Road 9 in DeKalb County, police said.

During the chase, Sheehan traveled left of center multiple times, forcing oncoming motorists off County Road 56, police said.

Sheehan, 34, was arrested on felony charges of receiving stolen auto parts, resisting law enforcement and being a habitual traffic violator.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

He has four active warrants out of Noble County, police said.
