Wine Bar gives taste of Spain

Call it wanderlust or winter fatigue, but the idea of a trip to, well, anywhere sounds nice right about now.

And Spain sounds even nicer.

Chop’s Wine Bar, 6421 W. Jefferson Blvd., is offering guests Sabor de Espana – a culinary journey through the European country.

Among the offerings will be tapas; a spicy prawn appetizer; paella with chicken, chorizo, shrimp, mussels and crawfish; and a dessert of grilled bread with smoked chocolate ganache, orange and almonds. Each of the six courses will be paired with a Spanish wine.

The Feb. 24 dinner will be at 6 p.m. and costs $75 a person – gratuity not included. For reservations, call 436-9220.

Gluten-free offerings

Vanilla Bean Unique Cookies and Cupcakes, 3410 N. Anthony Blvd., is announcing a menu that has been nearly a year in the making.

“We were frequently asked for gluten-free products, so we have been testing various flours for the past year,” creative chef and co-founder Debbie Smith says. “The challenge was finding a flour blend that produced a cookie with a pleasing texture and flavor profile.”

The gluten-free product line includes Chunky Chocolate, Chunky Chocolate with Pecans, Chunky Chocolate with Pecans and Coconut, Lemon Ricotta and Molasses Oatmeal.

Pet shelter fundraiser

Nick’s Kitchen in Huntington is hosting a fundraiser from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday to benefit the Helping Paws Pet Haven.

It is the fifth year that Nick’s Kitchen, famous for its pork tenderloin, has opened up its restaurant in the evening to benefit the shelter.

There will be two menu options – steak with green beans, mashed potatoes and tossed salad; and a mini pork tenderloin with french fries and salad. Both cost $7.95.

Staff from the Huntington animal shelter will be waiting tables, and 10 percent of sales and all tips will benefit the shelter.
