Woman accused of prescription fraud

A woman was charged Monday with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance by subterfuge after filling prescriptions under her deceased mother’s name.

Sandra Faurote, 57, attempted to receive Alprazolam – the generic form of Xanax – that had been prescribed to her mother, according to court documents.

Faurote’s mother died in October 2013, the documents said.

Faurote successfully obtained a refill from Kroger Pharmacy on Dec. 18.

On Feb. 4, Faurote returned to the store to pick up the prescription and was arrested. She told police she still had part of the prescription she filled in December, according to court documents.

Police searched her home and found 55 tablets of Alprazolam, the documents said.

Faurote, of the 1800 block of Lathrop Drive, was released on her own recognizance.
