2 shot in car that ends up in ditch

Two men were found outside their vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds Tuesday afternoon, police said.

About 1:35 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Decatur Road and Dawnan Drive on a report of a shooting.

The men were discovered on the ground outside of the vehicle they were in, which became lodged in the snow, Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Michael Joyner said.

Both men were transported to a hospital in fair condition, police said. Their identities were not released Tuesday.

Investigators said it appears the men were driving through the area when their vehicle was struck by gunfire.

The car traveled off Decatur Road and then became stuck in a snow-covered ditch near the intersection of Decatur Road and Dawnan Drive, police said.

Bullet holes pierced the windshield, shattering the rear window and a trail of blood could be seen from the car to the roadway nearby.

Multiple shell casings were collected from a location north of where the victims were found, Joyner said.

Investigators believe the shots were fired from a vehicle, but no description of the suspects or the vehicle was available Tuesday.
