Cinema editors honor ‘Phillips,’ ‘Hustle’

“Captain Phillips” and “American Hustle” took top awards Friday from the American Cinema Editors.

Christopher Rouse won the dramatic feature Eddie Award for “Captain Phillips.” The award for comedy or musical feature went to Jay Cassidy, Crispin Struthers and Alan Baumgarten for “American Hustle.”

Both films and their editors are among nominees in the best film editing category at the Academy Awards on March 2. In nine of the past 10 years, the ACE winner for dramatic feature has gone on to win the editing Oscar, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Jeff Draheim won the edited animated feature Eddie for “Frozen.”

Production honors

Production designers for three Oscar-nominated films were honored by the Art Directors Guild on Saturday.

The 18th Excellence in Production Design Awards have three film categories. K.K. Barrett of “Her” won for contemporary film; Andy Nicholson of “Gravity” won the fantasy film category; and Catherine Martin won the period film honor for “The Great Gatsby.”

Production designers for “Game of Thrones,” “Behind the Candelabra” and “Veep” won in the guild’s TV categories.
