Fort Wayne police investigate an accident in which a car was rear-ended on St. Joe Road near the entrance to Canterbury Green Apartments. One driver was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

1 driver critical after crash near Canterbury Green

One man was taken to a hospital in critical condition Friday after his vehicle was rear-ended at high speed on Fort Wayne's northeast side, police said.

The crash occurred about 12:15 p.m. in the southbound lane of St. Joe Road near Canterbury Drive.

Fort Wayne police said a green Honda slammed into the back of a Ford Crown Victoria with such force the impact sent the Ford airborne through the intersection and onto a snow pile.

The driver of the Ford was not identified.

Witnesses told police the driver of the Honda, who was not identified, exited his car and punched the windshield of a vehicle traveling north on St. Joe Road.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was not injured.

The driver of the Honda was later taken to a hospital in stable condition.
