Low-cost spay, neuter programs offered

Throughout the month of February, pet owners can take advantage of low-cost spay and neuter programs at local veterinarians as part of a statewide Have a Heart campaign.

The Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana has partnered with 30 veterinary clinics, including four Fort Wayne locations. All will offer special discounted fees during the campaign. Local participating clinics include:

Aboite Animal Clinic & House Call Practice, 4142 Covington Road, 432-5525

Anthony Animal Clinic, 7202 S. Anthony Blvd., 447-1558

H.O.P.E. for Animals, 1333 Maycrest Dr., 420-7729

Spay and Neuter Clinic, 1313 Broadway, 424-5982

Spay and neuter surgery prices range from $35 to $60 and low-cost vaccinations will also be available. Participating veterinary clinics are only able to perform a limited number of discounted surgeries, so call early to schedule an appointment.

“Limited income pet owners are twice as likely to have unsterilized pets as those who are more affluent,” said Cheri Storms, president of Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana. “This program helps us make the greatest impact by decreasing the number of animals entering overcrowded shelters, where more than half of those who enter don’t make it out alive.”

“Affordable spay and neuter options and financial assistance programs like SNSI’s Have a Heart program are the key to making a difference,” Storms said.
