IPFW women beat North Dakota State

They weren't always pretty in pink. But appearances aren't everything.

On an afternoon when the IPFW women's basketball team broke out pink uniforms for the 7th annual Pink-Out Day honoring breast-cancer survivors, the Mastodons ground one out against North Dakota State, 57-51.

They got it done despite shooting just 38.5 percent (20 of 52), turning it over 15 times and letting a seven-point slip away before righting the ship across the last five minutes.

In the end, it was defense and simple tenacity that brought it home on a day when the broad side of the barn was safe from pretty much everybody. North Dakota State made just 20-of-67 shots and 15 of 19 from the 3-point line, and made just 10 field goals in 34 attemps in the second half.

Still, it took clutch buckets by Haley Seibert and Amanda Hyde in the last 1:46 to finally put away the Bison, who pieced together a 10-1 run to erase a seven-point Mastodon lead and give the Bison a 42-40 lead with 7:20 left.

Back-to-back 3s by Rachel and Stefanie pried the lead back, and the Bison never caught IPFW thereafter.
