1 injured, 2 cats die in McKinnie fire

A person was seriously injured and two cats died in a house fire early Wednesday on Fort Wayne’s southeast side.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department was called just after 1 a.m. to 2033 McKinnie Ave.

When crews arrived, they found the single-story home on fire, with the occupant outside. Firefighters had the fire under control in five minutes. After searching the house, they recovered two dead cats.

The occupant of the home was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The fire department reported moderate fire, water and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
