Grand jury to review fatal crash involving trooper

– A northern Indiana prosecutor has asked for a grand jury to review a fatal crash last year involving a state trooper.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Michael Dvorak on Tuesday asked the circuit court to convene a grand jury to review the March 7 collision that killed 19-year-old Robert Perez of Mishawaka. State police said at the time that Perez’s car entered a rural St. Joseph County intersection and was struck by the cruiser driven by Trooper William Ennis with its siren and emergency lights on. Ennis sustained a broken ankle.

Dvorak says the grand jury could return an indictment or determine that no indictment should be issued. Dvorak says no further information about the review could be released.
