Winter Storm Warning in effect

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing and drifting snow, which is in effect through 4 p.m. Wednesday for northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Snowfall amounts by midday Wednesday are generally expected to be from 6 to 10 inches, with the highest amounts along and south of U.S. 24, the weather service said. LaGrange and Steuben counties are expected to get 5 to 8 inches, it said.

Interstate 69, the Indiana Toll Road and the Ohio Turnpike will be affected, the weather service said, and primary roads such as U.S. 6, U.S. 24, U.S. 30, U.S. 31 and U.S. 33 will become snow-covered and hazardous.

The warning is for the following counties:

  • Indiana – Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, Whitley, Pulaski, Fulton, White, Cass, Miami, Grant, Blackford and Jay.
  • Ohio – Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen.
This includes the communities of the cities of, Fort Wayne, Kendallville, Ligonier, Albion, Auburn, Garrett, Angola, LaGrange, Topeka, Shipshewana, Fremont, Winamac, Francesville, Medaryville, Rochester, Akron, Warsaw, Winona Lake, Syracuse, Mentone, Columbia City, Tri-Lakes, South Whitley, New Haven, Monticello, Brookston, Monon, Logansport, Royal Center, Peru, Grissom AFB, Mexico, Wabash, North Manchester, Huntington, Roanoke, Bluffton, Ossian, Decatur, Berne, Marion, Gas City, Upland, Hartford City, Montpelier, Portland, Dunkirk, Bryan, Wauseon, Archbold, Fayette, Swanton, Defiance, Sherwood, Hicksville, Napoleon, Deshler, Liberty Center, Paulding, Antwerp, Melrose, Ottawa, Pandora, Kalida, Fort Jennings, Van Wert, Delphos, Ohio City, Lima and Spencerville.

  • Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility in occasional heavy snow will produce extremely hazardous travel conditions by tonight.

  • Increasing north winds overnight into Wednesday will cause blowing and drifting, primarily on east to west roads.
