38 kilos of cocaine seized in Whitley traffic stop

A Fort Wayne truck driver was held Saturday night on a drug-related charge after 38 kilograms of cocaine valued at between $3 million and $4 million was found in his semi in Whitley County, Indiana State Police said today.

Guadalupe Quintanilla, 69, was driving east on U.S. 30, east of Indiana 9 in Columbia City, when state police at Fort Wayne said he committed a traffic violation and had an equipment violation that needed to be addressed.

Police stopped the truck and said they "became suspicious of potential criminal activity based on their training and experience."

A state police K-9 summoned to the scene alerted on the semi tractor, police said

Quintanilla gave permission for a search, police said, and troopers found 38 individually wrapped packages containing a white powder later identified as cocaine.

Quintanilla was arrested without incident, police said, and was being held at the Whitley County Jail without bond.
