Fort Wayne police officers and Emergency Services Team members walk back to their staging area at the corner of Buchanan Street and Weiser Park Avenue on Sunday after performing a search of a house in the 600 block of Creighton St. Police received information that someone ran into the house after pistol whipping and robbing another man of cash outside near the house.

Armor-clad police with guns drawn searched a home just south of downtown Sunday afternoon, but came out empty handed.

About 1:15 p.m. Fort Wayne Police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 600 block of Creighton Avenue, spokesman Michael Joyner said. Witnesses said two or three young males stopped a vehicle and pistol-whipped the driver, who may have accidentally hit one of the perpetrators with his vehicle as he fled afterward.

Police arriving on the scene detained two individuals who were being questioned as persons of interest in the case, Joyner said. Some witnesses told police a third perpetrator ran into a house in the 600 block of Creighton, leading officers to cordon off the area and send in the Critical Response and Emergency Services teams.

The six people in the home were evacuated, Joyner said, and then a robot was used to clear the house, after which CRT and EST members entered and cleared the house. The teams left the house about 4:25 p.m.

No suspect was found.
