Purdue professor shot multiple times

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Authorities say a Purdue University professor was seriously wounded at home by her husband who then killed himself.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department said 51-year-old Marcia Gentry was shot multiple times in the lower extremities Thursday night.

The department said 64-year-old William Byers was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the couple’s home near West Lafayette.

The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/1edD6OY) that Gentry is a professor in Purdue’s educational studies department.

Gentry was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed Friday in serious condition.
