Baby’s death leads to murder charge

A Defiance, Ohio, man has been charged in the death of a 5-month-old child.

James L. Cooper, 29, is now facing a felony count of murder, according to the Defiance City Police Department.

On Friday, police officers and a Defiance Fire and Rescue crew were called to a Corwin Street home because of a child not breathing.

The child was taken to a hospital and later was transferred to Toledo Children’s Hospital, where the child died Sunday.

Cooper is scheduled to appear in Defiance Municipal Court today.
