Losing Bulls won’t alter ECHL playoffs rules

I reached out to the ECHL to find out how the playoff format has changed with the San Francisco Bulls folding Monday.

The answer: It isn’t.

The top eight teams in both conferences will qualify.

In the Western Conference that means all teams will qualify.

I thought this might be a chance to have a crossover rule – the ninth best team from the East would qualify if it had a better record than the eighth team in the West – but I guess because the format was voted on before the season they couldn’t/wouldn’t change it.

Bad news for the Komets, who are in 10th place in their conference heading into tonight’s game at Wheeling, W.Va.
