Wayne senior sprinter Brionna Thomas will sign with the Purdue track & field program next week.
Thomas is the two-time defending state champion in the 100 and 200 meters, winning as a sophomore and as a junior.
As a freshman, she was third in the 100 and second in the 200 at the state finals.
“I chose Purdue for many reasons,” Thomas said. “One being the location of the college. I would rather be two hours away from home at Purdue rather than 10 hours or more away at Kansas State.
“Secondly, Purdue is trying to have an upcoming track team, and I want to be a part of it.”
Thomas also noted the coaching staff at Purdue and the academics.
Thomas also the defending 100 and 200 SAC champion, breaking a 17-year-old record in the 100 (11.92) last year.
Concordia senior and fellow state champion hurdler Symone Black has also committed to Purdue.
