Carroll defends NHC wrestling title

NEW HAVEN – Carroll defended its NHC wrestling meet title on the strength of its upper weight classes.

The Chargers won their second straight NHC meet title Wednesday at New Haven, slipping past Bellmont 231-226.

Carroll individual champions were Josh Garman (152 pounds), Tristan Wilson (170), Corey Rickman (195) and Ammon Carr (285).

Carroll coach Scott Raypole said Rickman’s win at 195 was key because Rickman had lost to Bellmont’s Carter Friedt in the dual match, but came back at theNHCmeet to win in a pin (4:29).

“It’s nice to have those heavy hitters in the last four or five weight classes,” Raypole said. “To have those upper weight classes continue to fight, know they have to win and go out there and execute was big.

“To feel that pressure and get those wins is a pretty good feeling.”
