Fort Wayne, others reach record lows for date

Fort Wayne and three other area communities reached record low temperatures for the date this morning, the National Weather Service has reported.

The temperature in Fort Wayne reached 16 degrees below zero, tying the record for Jan. 28 set in 1963, the weather service said in a statement.

Other area records today:

Berne reported 15 degrees below zero, breaking the record of 13 below set in 1963 and 1977.

Van Wert, Ohio, reported 14 degrees below zero, breaking the record of 13 below set in 1963.

Montpelier, Ohio, reported 13 degrees below zero, breaking the record of 12 below set in 1963.
