North-side restaurant ablaze; winds hamper firefighters

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the Paper Lantern restaurant located at 4610 Coldwater Road in the Jo Ann Plaza, 10:30 p.m. Sunday, after passers-by reported seeing flames coming out of the building. When crews arrived, there were flames coming out of the windows and roof. No one was inside at the time of the fire.

Deputy Chief Mark Nelson said firefighters fought the fire from the outside right away, but extreme winds, coming from the west, were hampering efforts to control the fire. Crews were monitoring the situation but didn't think any other of the nearby shopping structures were in danger.

Nelson said they do not know where or how the fire started.

The fire is under investigation.
