Woman faces DWI, neglect charges

The car was being driven at “excessively low speeds” when it struck a stop sign in the Kroger parking lot Jan. 18.

A Fort Wayne police officer pulled the car over at Coldwater and Gump roads. He looked down at an open jug of vodka on the floor, a drunken woman at the wheel and her underage daughter who was with her, court records said.

On Friday, Allen County prosecutors identified the woman as Angela M. Johnson, 39, of Garrett.

She’s charged with felony counts of neglect of a dependent and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

According to court documents, when asked whether she was under the influence of drugs, Johnson said: “Alcohol, absolutely.”

She admitted to having taken prescription medication as well and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.35 percent, far above the legal limit.

“I did wrong, what’s there to say,” she told the officer in court documents. “No excuse.”
