Fall into rail car kills worker

MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – State officials are investigating the death of a 30-year-old Indiana man at a mill in southwest Michigan.

The St. Joseph sheriff’s office told WOOD-TV (http://bit.ly/LW725M) that the man apparently lost his footing Friday while loading rail cars and fell into a hopper car at Anderson’s Mill in Mottville Township, just north of the state line with Indiana.

Co-workers pulled the man out and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The Elkhart, Ind., resident later was pronounced dead.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
