Passenger killed in two-car Noble County crash

A Whitley County man died Wednesday night after the vehicle he was riding in slid sideways off the road in Noble County and was struck by an SUV.

About 8:50 p.m., John M. Coulson, 43, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire north on Indiana 205, north of County Road 600 South, in Noble County when the car slid sideways and went left of center, Indiana State Police said.

The car was struck broadside in the passenger door by a southbound 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Carrie L. Dunn, 35, of South Whitley.

Coulson’s passenger, Delbert L. Johnson Jr., 33, suffered fatal injuries, police said.

Johnson, of Columbia City, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Noble County Coroner’s Office.

Coulson, of Gary, was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for medical treatment. His condition was not available Thursday. Dunn and her 7-year-old son, Carmine K. Shoda, were also transported to a Fort Wayne hospital. No information was available about their conditions.

Johnson, Coulson and Dunn were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and Shoda was restrained in a booster seat, police said.
