Mad Ants tied for 1st with win at Springfield

The Mad Ants are once again tied with Canton at the top of the Eastern Division of the D-League standings after posting a 117-108 win at Springfield on Friday.

That win, combined with a 106-99 Canton loss at Delaware left both teams with 15-9 records.

Fort Wayne outscored Springfield 28-20 in the first quarter and 32-24 in the second, giving Fort Wayne a 60-44 halftime lead.

Fort Wayne's work, however, was not over. The Armor (6-17) outscored the Mad Ants 39-30 in the third quarter to cut the lead to seven points going into the fourth.

The closest the Armor would get was within three points at 111-108 with 3:02 left to play. The Mad Ants closed it out with a 7-0 run to secure the victory.

The Mad Ants had six players score in the double digits, led by Tony Mitchell's 25. Trey McKinney-Jones had 21, Ron Howard 19, Sadiel Rojas 18, and Chris Porter and Darnell Lazare 10.

Darius Johnson-Odom led the Armor with 28 points, and Dennis Horner had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mad Ants went 46 of 88 (52 percent) from the field, while the Armor went 40 of 73 (55 percent).

The Armor had the advantage at the free-throw line shooting 20 of 25 (80 percent) compared to the Mad Ants' 17 of 25 (74 percent).

The Mad Ants continue their road trip tonight against the Maine Red Claws. Tipoff is at7 p.m.
