A loaded .22-caliber Beretta semiautomatic pistol stolen during an armed robbery this month was recovered late Tuesday by Indiana State Police troopers after a report of shots being fired in the area of Eden Green Apartments.
Troopers said they were at the corner of Greene and Oliver streets at 11:10 p.m. when they overheard radio traffic on the Fort Wayne Police Department channel about a possible shooting.
They saw a 2000 Chevrolet Impala speeding away from the complex and stopped it, with Fort Wayne officers, on Wallace Street east of Hanna Street.
State police said the loaded gun and a bag containing a number of loose .22-caliber bullets were found on Michael William Bracey, 20, of Fort Wayne.
The gun was reported stolen after an armed robbery at Lev’s Pawn Shop in Fort Wayne on Jan. 10, state police said.
Bracey was taken to the Allen County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a handgun without a permit. No bond amount was immediately available.
