Komets to play outdoor Winterfest game

The Komets will participate in an outdoor game in Toledo, Ohio, on Jan. 3, 2015, as part of a 10-day Winterfest.

The game will be against the Walleye at Fifth Third Field, a baseball stadium.

The Walleye will take on Kalamazoo on Dec. 27 in the first of the two ECHL games.

There will also be an alumni game between Fort Wayne and Toledo players before the Jan. 3 game.

Fifth Third Field, the home of the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, will have the ice running across the infield from first to third base.

“There has been a lot of excitement around the league since we first announced this event last October,” ECHL commissioner Brian McKenna said. “With the Walleye hosting regional rivals Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne in the first outdoor games in ECHL history, we are expecting a tremendous response from fans and are looking forward to two great nights during the 2014-15 season.”

Ticket information hasn’t yet been released, though season-ticket holders for the Walleye and Mud Hens will get first chance to buy.
