Verbatim: Dress for Success Fort Wayne gets $25,000 grant

The Fort Wayne Women's Bureau issued this news release Monday:

FORT WAYNE – January 20, 2014 - Dress for Success® Fort Wayne has received a $25,000 grant from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to establish a Career Center to expand the current services provided by Dress for Success® Fort Wayne.

Dress for Success Fort Wayne was one of 15 Dress for Success locations throughout the United States to receive the $25,000 Paving the Way Forward grant. These new grants were generously provided in addition to the $2.5 million award the Walmart Foundation gave to Dress for Success Worldwide, earlier

this year, in support the organization’s “Going Places Network by Walmart” (GPN).

This grant supports a key goal of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation’s Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative; to help 200,000 U.S. women from low-income households gain access to job training, education, career counseling, and mentoring, increasing their employment opportunities. More information on this initiative can be found at corporate.walmart.com/women.

The Dress for Success Fort Wayne Career Center will offer assistance with resume design and cover letters, as well as interview skills. Clients will also learn how to network, research various companies and job postings, and write thank you notes after an interview. These services will complement the initial

phase of Dress for Success Fort Wayne in which a client is suited and completely accessorized with appropriate business attire. The purpose of this program is to enable a woman to be prepared, confident and successful when interviewing for a job.

Clients will be scheduled for the Career Center when an appointment is made for suiting. The Career Center will be available 15 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, and is located at the Women’s Bureau, 2417 Fairfield Avenue.

Dress for Success® Fort Wayne serves job-ready women by referral from non-profit organizations including domestic violence agencies, homeless shelters and job-training programs. All Dress for Success Fort Wayne services are free to eligible women. Dress for Success® Fort Wayne is a program of the Women’s Bureau.
