Wells to construct spec building, seeking new employers

Wells County is aggressively courting new employers by building a 200,000-square-foot shell building in Bluffton, officials announced today. Companies looking to expand or enter a market often prefer the ease of buying or renting a new structure.

The building, which will be finished to meet a tenant’s needs, will be in the Bluffton-Decker Industrial Park on the city’s west side. Groundbreaking is expected in the spring, with completion in six to nine months.

The Wells County Commissioners today approved the plan, which is contingent on reaching an agreement with a Wells County developer. The estimated cost is $5 million, said Tim Ehlerding, executive director of Wells County Economic Development.

“We must be aggressive in our efforts to grow the Wells County economy and create a climate where new jobs are created,” Commissioner Scott Mossburg said in a statement. “This is true economic development and an ideal use of CEDIT (County Economic Development Income Tax) funds.”
