Dispute at bar turns fatal

Police questioning shooter

Allen County sheriff’s officers are investigating a shooting that left one man dead outside the Dupont Bar and Grill early Sunday morning.

The dead man was identified as Damian J. Miller II, 32, of Fort Wayne. After an autopsy Sunday afternoon the Allen County Coroner’s Office declared the shooting a homicide, the first in the county this year.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that two men got into an argument inside the business at 10336 N. Clinton St. and that the argument continued outside the bar, where one man shot the other about 3:49 a.m.

When officers arrived they found Miller lying on the front sidewalk outside the bar suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later declared dead by medics.

The sheriff’s department did not say whether there were any witnesses to the shooting, but there were about 12 witnesses to the fight, according to department spokesman officer Adam Griffith.

Officers had interviewed some of them at the bar and taken some downtown. Among the people who were being questioned was the person who did the shooting, Griffith said.

A woman who answered the phone Sunday afternoon at the Dupont Bar and Grill said she knew nothing and had nothing to say.

She said she didn’t even know who was shot.
