Mad Ants move into 1st place with road win

Sadiel Rojas scored a season-high 36 points and had 10 rebounds in the Mad Ants’ 142-131 win over the Energy in Des Moines, Iowa.

Fort Wayne (13-8) has won six of its last seven since defeating the Energy on Jan. 11 and have overtaken Canton (12-8) for first place in the East Division by a half game.

Along with Rojas, five other Fort Wayne players scored in the double-digits. Ron Howard scored 27, Tony Mitchell had 20, Trey McKinney-Jones 17, Chris Porter 16, and Will Frisby 15.

The Mad Ants (13-8) began slowly, taking the lead only once in the first quarter and not at all in the second, but they still managed to come out of the first half tied at 66.

Fort Wayne took the lead for good at 84-82 with a three-point shot from Rojas with 7:20 left to play in the third quarter.

The Mad Ants outscored the Energy 38-31 in the third and 38-34 in the fourth.

The Mad Ants shot 53 of 94 (56 percent) from the field and 29 of 32 (91 percent) from the free throw line, compared with the Energy’s 23 of 37 (62 percent).

Fort Wayne also outrebounded the Energy 42-40.

Rojas went 5 of 6 on three-pointers and Howard went 15 of 16 from the line.

The Energy (14-7) had six players score in the double digits, led by Othyus Jeffers who scored 27 points and had 19 rebounds.

The Mad Ants face the Energy again tonight at the Coliseum. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
