  • Mad Ants set tryout in Washington, D.C.
    The Mad Ants will hold open tryouts on Sept. 28 in Washington, D.C. for the upcoming NBA Development League season. The open tryout will be one of several tryouts held by the Mad Ants across the country.

Mad Ants defeat Iowa

Sadiel Rojas scored a season-high 36 points and had 10 rebounds in the Mad Ants’ 142-131 win over the Energy in Des Moines, Iowa.

Along with Rojas, five other Fort Wayne players scored in the double-digits. Ron Howard scored 27, Tony Mitchell had 20, Trey McKinney-Jones 17, Chris Porter 16, and Will Frisby 15.

The Mad Ants (13-8) began slowly, only able to attain the lead once in the first quarter and not at all in the second, but finished the first half with the score at 66-66.

Fort Wayne took the lead for good at 84-82 with a three-point shot from Rojas with 7:20 left to play in the third quarter. The Mad Ants out-scored the Energy 38-31 in the third, and 38-34 in the fourth.

Fort Wayne has now won six of their last seven since defeating the Energy on Jan. 11 and have over taken Canton for first place in the East Division.

The Mad Ants shot 53 of 94 (56 percent) from the field, and 29 of 32 (91 percent) from the free throw line, compared to the Energy’s 23 of 37 (62 percent). Fort Wayne also out-rebounded the Energy 42-40.

Rojas went 5 of 6 on three-pointers and Howard went 15 of 16 from the line.

The Energy (14-7) had six players score in the double digits, led by Othyus Jeffers who scored 27 points and had 19 rebounds.

The Mad Ants face the Energy again tonight at the Coliseum. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
