Dollar General store robbed; suspect arrested

The Dollar General store on Lima Road was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning, but a suspect was found later at a vacant home and later was arrested, Fort Wayne police said.

Alexander A. White, 21, of Fort Wayne was charged with armed robbery, city police said in a statement.

A suspect dressed in black with a white bandana covering his face robbed the store, 9149 Lima Road, at 8:15 a.m., police said. They said he left the area to the south on foot.

Police said a Fort Wayne K-9 officer and his partner tracked from the store to the rear of a vacant home in the 9000 block of Village Drive, where officers saw fresh footprints leading to an unlocked rear door.

The officers set up a perimeter around the home and called in the department's Emergency Services Team, police said.

At 9:40 a.m., they said, a man left the home and was taken into custody without incident. No one else was found inside.

Items believed to be associated with the robbery were located in the home, police said.

The robbery remains under investigation by city police and the Allen County prosecutor's office.
