‘Talk to a Lawyer’ to offer free advice

The Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana and the Indiana State Bar Association will sponsor Talk to a Lawyer Today, a program that provides free legal consultations for those who cannot afford counsel, on Jan. 20.

The event will be from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the following locations: Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza; Carnegie Library of Steuben County, 322 S. Wayne St., Angola; and LaFontaine Center, 208 W. State St., Huntington.

A toll-free hotline for the program in Spanish will be available at 800-266-2581.

The annual tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. is geared toward low-income people, but it is open to the public regardless of income levels. Attorneys will provide free 10- to 15-minute consultations and offer legal information and advice only, not legal representation.

Residents in Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells or Whitley counties who are unable to attend can access the program during the event at 260-407-0917 or toll free at 877-407-0917.
