Snowmobile rider badly hurt in crash

A 23-year-old Hoagland man was injured late Thursday after his snowmobile plowed into a fence and he was struck by another snowmobile, according to Indiana conservation officers.

Alex Scheuman was riding with friends on the Heritage Snowmobile Trail, a public trail in southeast Allen County, about 11 p.m. when his snowmobile went outside the posted trail markers and hit the fence, officers said.

He was struck by a snowmobile that had been behind him, according to a statement from conservation officers.

Scheuman was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with internal injuries, officers said. The hospital said Scheuman was in serious condition Friday afternoon.
