CHEERS to the person who paid for our dinners the Monday before Christmas at Agaves. When three high school friends got together for dinner 30 years after graduating there was plenty to talk about.
When the waitress relayed your kindness, we were finally rendered speechless.
Your gift exhibited all that is shiny and good about the Christmas season. Thank you for the dinners, your generosity, and the reminder that one person can make a difference. Each of us will think of you when we pay it forward.

CHEERS to the combined choral groups from the service academies who sang the national anthem at the Army-Navy game.
They sang the song – simply and with feeling. There were no added embellishments, no weird vibratos, no warbling. They didnt try to make the song their own and thus, again, made it an anthem for all of us.

JEERS and boo-hiss to patrons of Allen County Public Library who mishandle DVDs, CDs, and audiobook discs by leaving fingerprints and scratches on them.
Because this is public property, patrons should be even more careful in how they handle these discs, and whom they permit at home to handle them, than they would with their own property.
It is annoying to have to clean every disc and worry whether visible scratches will hamper play.
Please be careful with the discs that circulate and respect the fact that the next patron who checks them out after you will have a satisfying viewing or listening experience

CHEERS to the employees of Chapel Ridge Marshalls. In my snowstorm panic, I left my purse in a shopping cart. Honest employees found my bag, called me, then refused a reward for its recovery.
I neglected to get the name of the gracious manager. Her courteous call and return of my bag, plus her refusal of a reward, means so much to me. What a caring, gracious staff.

Chivalrous CHEERS to two strong but gloveless men, Mike, a locksmith and Jose, with a shovel, for digging my mom and me out of a snow bank Jan. 8 on Clinton Street by Walgreens, after an ice patch threw us into a spin.
