Cindy’s Diner move OK’d

The Fort Wayne Parks Board on Thursday approved a proposal to relocate Cindy’s Diner, a longtime downtown icon.

Last month, the parks board heard a plan to move Cindy’s Diner about a block northwest from its present location at Wayne and Harrison streets. The diner will land at West Berry Street and Maiden Lane in a portion of the parking lot of the Community Center, which is part of the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department.

Al Moll, director of Fort Wayne Parks, said relocation could begin next month depending on the weather.

The move was prompted by a $71 million downtown project that includes a new national headquarters for Ash Brokerage and a residential development led by Hanning & Bean Enterprises. Cindy’s Diner is in the project area, which will take up nearly a full square block.
