Notre Dame's Daniels to miss spring semester

Notre Dame's top returning receiver for next season will miss the spring semester.

DaVaris Daniels released a statement to ESPN.com and SI.com saying he will not be enrolled at the university for the upcoming semester but plans to re-enroll for the summer semester.

Daniels' suspension for the spring was first reported by NBCsports.com.

"I understand that attending the University of Notre Dame is a privilege and with that comes a certain level of academic responsibility," Daniels said in a statement. "Therefore, I will not be attending Notre Dame in the Spring semester but fully expect to re-enroll in the Summer semester to earn my degree and continue playing football for the Irish!"

Daniels' 49 receptions for 745 yards and seven touchdowns were second only to TJ Jones' 70 catches for 1,108 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Daniels may not miss any games next season if he is able to return to Notre Dame after this semester, but he will miss spring practice and time to redevelop chemistry with quarter Everett Golson.

Golson missed this season after he was suspended for the fall semester because of an academic issue.
