FORT WAYNE – On Wednesday morning in Reno, Nev., the Mad Ants will prepare for a game the way they do any other game night.
Only, this game could last between 0.9 second and 3 minutes – the length of the D-Leagues overtime periods – or, well, who knows?
At the D-League Showcase, its the makeup of the season-opening game at Texas from Nov. 22, which the Mad Ants successfully protested after they lost by one point. The game was tied at 99 before the Mad Ants were assessed a technical foul for calling a timeout they didnt have.
Except, the mistake was made because the scorers mistakenly informed the Mad Ants they still had a timeout.
The game Wednesday will resume with 0.9 second remaining in the fourth quarter and the score tied at 99. Fort Wayne will in-bound the ball in the back court, at the foul line extended, and will be in front of Texas bench. With the resumption, Texas will have one timeout remaining.
Well work on it and try to hit a shot with 0.9 and hopefully we wont have to go into overtime, Fort Waynes Ron Howard said jokingly.
Players on either teams current active rosters will be eligible to play. Players who participated in the original game retain their foul totals.
Its going to be crazy, Howard said. But were going to take it seriously. We want to win and thats what we plan on doing.
Texas (9-5) plays Canton at 1 p.m. Fort Wayne time, and the game with Fort Wayne (7-7) is at 12:35 a.m.
Well warm up like usual and get prepared for 3 minutes and 0.9 seconds, Fort Wayne coach Conner Henry said. Both teams are going to be focused for 3 minutes. Its going to be a scrap. I think its going to be important not to foul. Weve just got to move the ball from side to side and make them guard us.
