An extreme cold settled into Fort Wayne Monday and is expected to last through Tuesday.

With Allen County and Fort Wayne locked in a state of emergency, the streets in downtown remained mostly bare as plow truck continued to clear the city streets and real temperatures dropped down to -12 degrees with windchill factors hitting -30 degrees.

Area programs and businesses emailed closing notices to

School closings:

  • Fort Wayne and all Allen County schools are closed Tuesday. The Southwest Allen County Schools School Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled to Thursday.
  • East Noble Schools will be closed on Tuesday.
  • IPFW will be closed again Tuesday to all but essential employees.
  • Taylor University has canceled classes Monday and closed offices. Taylor's January interterm is to start Tuesday, when offices reopen.
  • Ball State University canceled classes Monday. There will be no classes at Ball State University or the Indiana Academy on Tuesday. Burris will be closed Tuesday. Classes will resume as scheduled starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Ball State remains closed until 11 a.m. Tuesday. Essential employees should report as normal. University offices will open at 11 a.m. at which time employees should return to work.
  • Manchester University canceled classes Monday on its North Manchester campus. Critical staff were to report to work.
  • Ivy Tech Ivy Tech Northeast was closed Monday and will be closed Tuesday.
  • The University of Saint Francis Fort Wayne Campus is closed until noon on Tuesday, January 7 due to inclement weather. All activities beginning at noon or later will proceed as scheduled.
Government closings:

  • City of Fort Wayne and Allen County offices will be open on Tuesday and employees should report for work on Tuesday. Both were closed Monday and only emergency services employees were asked to report for duty. For more updates, click here.
  • Citilink will operate its regular weekday schedule Fixed Route and Access service on Tuesday.
  • Monday's New Haven Park Board meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
  • Many counties in northeast Indiana are currently under a "Watch" or "Warning" status, limiting travel to essential or emergency purposes, respectively. To see an updated map of county travel advisories provided by each county's emergency management agency, go to
  • LaGrange County offices will be closed Tuesday.
  • All county-level offices in Paulding County will be closed on Tuesday.
  • Noble County commissioners have called for all county offices to be closed Tuesday. The travel advisory has been extended.
  • Indiana state offices are closed Monday. All state government offices across the state where public business is conducted will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Indiana appellate court leaders canceled office hours Monday. They will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Citilink service did not operate Monday. For travel emergencies call 432-4546.
  • Intercity bus service to and from Citilink Central Station, operated by Greyhound, Miller & Baron has been suspended/delayed today. For service updates contact Greyhound customer service at 800-231-2222.
  • Fort Wayne will have no trash or recycling collection today or Tuesday.
  • The city of Huntington will not have trash collection today, and the landfill will be closed. The Huntington City Building will not be open on Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday trash collection this will week will take place on Tuesday.
  • Allen Superior Court and related agencies, including Criminal Division Services, and the CASA Program will be closed today.
  • The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority's office is closed today, although the airport is open.
  • The Fort Wayne Plan Commission has postponed its public hearing set for 6 p.m. today at Citizens Square. The hearing has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at Citizens Square.
  • The Tuesday meetings of the Bluffton Common Council and the Board of Public Works and Safety have been canceled. The meetings will not be rescheduled.

  • Science Central in Fort Wayne announced that Half-Pint Science and Afternoon Science scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled and will be rescheduled later in the month.
  • Animal Care Teens is canceled for Tuesday at Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control.
Business closings:

  • Parkview Physicians Group-Whitley County is closed Tuesday.
  • HOPE for Animals in Fort Wayne will be closed Tuesday.
  • The Paulding Chamber said that the ribbon cutting for Real Waste Disposal has been canceled for Tuesday and was rescheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 106 E Jackson St.
  • Custom Engineering & Fabrication is closed Monday.
  • The Exelis Summit Park manufacturing facility will be closed Monday.
  • Midwest America Federal Credit Union's 12 Indiana branches will be closed Monday.
  • All offices and clinics of Lutheran Medical Group in northeastern Indiana are closed Monday. Patients with medical emergencies are urged to call 911 immediately.
  • Indiana Physical Therapy offices are closed Monday.
  • Parkview Physicians Group's offices and clinics are closed Monday.
  • All St. Joseph Medical Group locations are closed Monday.
  • Hopebridge Pediatric Specialists are closed Monday.
  • Parkview Hospital Randallia's health and fitness center are closed Monday.
  • All American Red Cross blood drives in the Indiana-Ohio Region are canceled Monday. This includes the donor centers at Lutheran Hospital and on East California Road.
  • VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne, emergency room will be the only outpatient service open Monday. All clinic and same-day surgeries will be closed. Veterans will be contacted to reschedule any missed appointments. Inpatient services will remain open. If you have questions, call 800-360-8387.
  • VA Northern Indiana Health Care System's Muncie community-based outpatient clinic closed Monday.
  • The business offices of WFWA-TV, PBS 39, closed today. The station will be operating and broadcasting normal program schedules. It expects to be open Tuesday.
  • The Fort Wayne Komets' game vs. Kalamazoo on Sunday night, was postponed until Wednesday, Jan. 8th, at 7 p.m. All tickets for Sunday's game will be honored on Wednesday.
  • Freedom Indiana, an opponent of an amendment to the Indiana Constitution defining marriage, postponing a Monday evening rally at the Indianapolis Artsgarden. Vigil that was scheduled to be held Sunday will be held next Sunday at same location. A new date for the rally will be announced at a later date.
  • Because of the weather, please call D.O. McComb & Sons at (260) 426-9494 regarding services scheduled for Monday.
  • The Allen County SPCA is closed Monday and will reopen at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
  • St. Joe Center Veterinary Clinic closed Monday.
  • All Allen County Public Library locations, including The Genealogy Center, are closed Monday.
  • All offices of iAB Financial Bank will be closed Monday.
  • Sweetwater Sound is closed Monday.
  • Professor Wellness and Fitness Center is closed Monday.
  • All branches of ProFed Federal Credit Union are closed Monday.
  • Open Mic is canceled Monday at C2G Music Hall.
  • Second-shift production at GM Fort Wayne Assembly Operations is canceled Monday. Second-shift maintenance and skilled trade employees should report at 5 p.m. Third-shift workers are to report at their normally scheduled times tonight. For the most up-to-date information, call 1-866-503-7755.
