Winter storm watch issued

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch forecasting the possibility of 6 to 12 inches of snow in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio from Saturday night through Sunday night.

The weather service says a cold front will move across the area Saturday night, with light snow accumulations possible. Heavier snow is possible Sunday as a low-pressure system reaches Ohio.

Visibility could be reduced to a quarter-mile or less both in heavier snow showers and blowing snow, the weather service says.

It says wind chills of 10 to 20 degrees below zero are possible through the weekend. Wind chills of 30 to 45 degrees below zero are possible Monday and Tuesday.

A watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may affect travel. The weather service encouraged residents to continue to monitor forecasts.
