Fort Wayne shooting spree hits woman, 60

FORT WAYNE – In a violent first day of 2014, a 60-year-old woman was the fifth person shot in Fort Wayne.

Officers were called to the 3700 block of Trace Circle about 9:15 p.m. to find the woman seriously wounded just inside the front door.

She told police there was a knock on the door and that she was struck as a barrage of bullets hit the duplex in the Village at Wayne Trace. She was struck in the leg and hand.

Police reported recovering what appeared to be rifle, shotgun and handgun bullets

The woman was in stable condition Thursday morning at a local hospital, according to a statement issued by officer Michael Joyner, a Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman.

  • He also updated information on the New Year's party shootings. Joyner said the victims at the Reed Street attack appear to have been targeted. He said the victims, all male, were 21, 19 and 17 years old. He said he was unable to confirm their conditions as of Thursday morning.
  • As of Thursday morning, he said, the Logan Street fatal shooting is pointing toward being an accident or suicide, and not criminal in nature.
