Area residents should ignore postcards promising to help them receive a $250 unclaimed reward, local consumer protection officials said Thursday.
The Better Business Bureau serving Northern Indiana warned that the bogus offer is actually the work of scammers, who want access to consumers’ credit-card information.
Those who have called the provided toll-free number say they’ve been asked to pay shipping and handling costs of rebates for Wal-Mart, Target and other retailers. Cash and checks are not accepted.
“This offer is an attempt to get your credit/debit card information,” BBB officials said in a statement. “Don’t fall for their bait.”
