Inmate dies after attempting suicide in cell

LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Northern Indiana authorities say a jail inmate who attempted suicide in his jail cell died the next day at a Fort Wayne hospital.

Cass County Sheriff Randy Pryor tells the Pharos-Tribune ( ) a jail guard found 42-year-old Joseph Leazenby in his cell Monday morning at the county jail in Logansport after he used an item of clothing to hang himself.

Leazenby was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital, where he died Tuesday.

The Logansport man was found hanging in his cell about an hour after he was arraigned on charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of a synthetic drug.

County Prosecutor Kevin Enyeart says his office “is extremely saddened by this turn of events.”
