After an investigation that lasted more than a year, a Steuben County man has been charged with felony neglect of an infant.
Chad A. Traster, 37, was served with an arrest warrant Friday afternoon at the Steuben County Jail, where he was serving time on an unrelated charge, according to a statement issued by the county sheriff’s department.
It said the investigation began in November 2012 with a report of suspected child abuse involving a 3-month-old baby in the 4500 block of south Old U.S. 27. After the child died, police “determined that the child’s death was due to circumstances unrelated to the original injuries that were reported initially.”
Traster is being held without bond on the new charge, pending an initial court appearance.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Indiana Department of Child Services, the Steuben County Coroner’s Office, the Marion County Coroner’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
